Making space for the climate crisis in the classroom is much easier to do with younger grades.Check out this website for downloadable climate change lessons for youngers students. On top of that, figure out ways to make this learning more hands on. If composting in your cafeteria is also something you plan to advocate for, ask your teachers/administration if your class could tend a garden or survey the composting bin at lunch!
Often times, highschools have an AP environmental science course but don't manage to make the material accesible to all learning abilities. Rather than hold one higher level learning course, highschools should opt to require a science unit each year focusing solely on climate change and it's effects on our planet and the people on it. If schools want to go above and beyond, they could also connect the climate crisis to history courses that explore the devestation climate change brings to different communities worldwide. These courses wouldn't be able to be lead only by online resources, but check out this source for topic ideas!
